Fiona McMahon

Allegra Bohlen, MEd, director of student affairs and career development, and Fiona McMahon, MEd, assistant director of student affairs, were recognized for their efforts in helping fourth-year students with residency applications. One M4 told the Dean’s Office: “I just wanted to send a big shout out to Allegra and Fiona for all of their hard work in helping us along during residency applications. I have been rotating with many students from other schools who have not had near the level of support. Both Allegra and Fiona have been there every step of the way and have responded to so many emails and requests for help during the preparation and submission of the applications. A big thank you.”


Dr. Carl Correll

Dr. Mirek DundrCarl Correll, PhD, associate professor and vice chair of biochemistry and molecular biology, Center for Proteomics and Molecular Therapeutics, was first author on an article titled “Crossing Boundaries of Light Microscopy Resolution Discerns Novel Assemblies in the Nucleolus,” published in Histochemistry and Cell Biology. Mirek Dundr, PhD, associate professor of cell biology and anatomy, Center for Cancer Cell Biology, Immunology, and Infection, was the corresponding author on the publication.


Dr. Adriana Fresquez

CMS alumna Adriana Fresquez, MD ’22, PhD ’20, was first author on a paper in the Journal of Biological Chemistry entitled “STIM1-Dependent Store-Operated Calcium Entry Mediates Sex Differences in Macrophage Chemotaxis and Monocyte Recruitment.” Additional authors include Center for Cancer Cell Biology, Immunology, and Infection research staff James (Jimmy) Hogan, Patricia Rivera, and Kristen Patterson; Kanakadurga Singer from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor; as well as Joseph Reynolds, PhD, center director; and Carl White, PhD, associate professor and vice chair of physiology and biophysics.


Dr. Raul GazmuriRaúl Gazmuri, MD, PhD, FCCM, director of Â鶹ӰÒô’s Resuscitation Institute and professor of physiology and biophysics, was elected Fellow of the American Heart Association (AHA), conferred by the Council on Cardiopulmonary Critical Care, Perioperative and Resuscitation (3CPR). Fellowship recognizes and awards premium professional members for excellence, innovative and sustained contributions in the areas of scholarship, practice and/or education, and volunteer service within the AHA.


Dr. Ron KaplanRonald Kaplan, PhD, CMS vice dean for research and Â鶹ӰÒô executive vice president for research, retired after 27 years of service to the university. He held numerous administrative and academic positions during his time at Â鶹ӰÒô, including serving as interim dean of CMS from 2019 to 2020. Last week, faculty, staff, and academic partners said farewell to Dr. Kaplan and wished him a happy and enjoyable retirement. We take this opportunity to thank him again for his many contributions to Chicago Medical School and the university.


Dr. Stephanie MossStephanie Moss, MD, psychiatry resident, was accepted for the Doximity Op-Med Fellowship Program. During this one-year program, she will work on pieces of original narrative writing that chronicle (among other possible topics) patient encounters, opinions about health and medicine-related topics, and personal experiences within her specialty. This will be an opportunity for Dr. Moss to share her insights and perspectives across the largest community of healthcare professionals in the country.
