Dr. Carlson is the Vice President for Interprofessional Education and Simulation and a professor in the Physician Assistant and medicine faculty. He oversees all simulation-based activities at the university, the DeWitt C. Baldwin Institute for Interprofessional Education, and the Gross Anatomy Labs. He received his PhD in Interprofessional Health Care Studies from Â鶹ӰÒôMS in 2012 and his Master’s of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Practice from Â鶹ӰÒôMS in 2001. In 2022 he completed the American Medical Association Health Systems Science Fellowship program and is recognized by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare as an advanced Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE-A). Under Dr. Carlson’s leadership Â鶹ӰÒô has been awarded accreditation but the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, placing the university in a top tier of simulation programming both nationally and internationally.

Additionally, Dr. Carlson teaches in a number of University programs and is a member of the Â鶹ӰÒô Master Teachers Guild. His teaching and research interests focus on diagnostic reasoning and clinical decision making, digital health and artificial intelligence in healthcare delivery, simulation-based performance assessment, the role of simulation in healthcare team training, health system improvement, and Interprofessional education.
