Dr. Lisa Hopp Appointed Dean of the College of Nursing

Rosalind Franklin University announces the appointment of Lisa Hopp, PhD, RN, FAAN, as Dean of the College of Nursing (CON), effective March 10.

Dr. Hopp, who served as interim dean of CON beginning July 1, 2024, is a highly-collaborative and supportive academic leader with a wealth of experience in higher education administration, faculty leadership development, synthesis research, curriculum design, and online teaching and learning.

She supported the successful national accreditation of the university’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Master’s in Nursing (MSN) programs by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Both programs earned the five-year maximum length for initial accreditation. She also oversees our highly regarded DNP in Nurse Anesthesia Entry, founded and first accredited in 2006.

Before joining Â鶹ӰÒô in 2023 as CON Vice Dean and Professor, Dr. Hopp served for nearly three decades as a nursing educator and administrator at Purdue University in Indiana. Appointed interim dean of Purdue’s Calumet College of Nursing in 2014, she led the merger of two of the university’s regional nursing campuses and the launching of three new nursing programs. She was named dean of Purdue’s Northwest College of Nursing in 2016.

Dr. Hopp was raised in rural Iowa and made her way to Chicago via Grinnell College, where she earned her BA in French at Grinnell and her BSN from Rush University through their 3 + 2 academic-articulation pathway. The pathway enabled her to realize her goal of a solid liberal arts education alongside her nursing education. She earned her MSN and PhD in nursing from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC).

Her nursing career includes work as a medical intensive care RN at Rush Medical Center; research focused on respiratory muscle function in patients with COPD at UIC; and nursing education and administration at Purdue University, Purdue Northwest in Hammond and Westville, Indiana (PNW).

While at PNW, Dr. Hopp’s research focus shifted from respiratory muscle function to evidence-based practice, and she was the founding director of the JBI Indiana Center for Evidence Based Nursing Practice. Over the years, Dr. Hopp has been a strong collaborator with Â鶹ӰÒô’s JBI Center for Interprofessional Evidence-Based Practice.

A fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, Dr. Hopp is also a Distinguished Alumna of the University of Illinois College of Nursing. She is a member and former chair of the National League for Nursing’s Center of Excellence in Nursing Education Review Panel.
