The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in cases involving Harvard University and the University of North Carolina, banning race-conscious admissions policies in higher education. Â鶹ӰÒô is taking a very close look at what the decisions mean for our university policies and practices. While this process moves forward, we remain committed to expanding access to higher education. Â鶹ӰÒô will continue to comply with all applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
Â鶹ӰÒô has been preparing since early this year for potential challenges and outcomes posed by the Supreme Court’s decision. A Task Force on Race-Conscious Admissions was formed in January to identify Â鶹ӰÒô policies, practices and planning that may be affected by the court’s decision.
Our university has a deep, historical commitment to diversity and educational access. We were founded in 1912 on the principle that everyone should have opportunities to pursue their ambitions and interests. We rejected the racial and ethnic marginalization that existed then and formed our medical school to afford opportunities to all. This enduring commitment continues to drive our mission to educate a diverse healthcare and biomedical workforce that will help address the health challenges of our communities.
We will also continue to help shape a future where everyone has equitable access to high-quality health care and the opportunity to reach their full health potential. That begins with our resolve to attract a diverse student body that enriches and strengthens the quality of our interprofessional healthcare and biomedical education. We reaffirm that commitment.
